Registrations have been closed due to low interest, CVA may try this event sometime in the future. FNQ schools, we encourage you to submit a team to the FNQ School's Cup at Smithfield SHS. Please contact Tammy Collins at Smithfield SHS for more information.

Cairns Volleyball Association (CVA) is announcing Cairns' own School's Cup, open to all schools!

This is an open ages school student tournament with extended game times. CVA aims to provide school teams with tournament experience before travelling south.

Date: Saturday 6th - Sunday 7th June 2026 (End of Week 7)
Venue: Cairns SHS Bouwa Hall
Fee: $200 per team

Divisions:
Senior Boys (Year 12 and Under) - maximum 8 teams
Senior Girls (Year 12 and Under) - maximum 8 teams

Please use this form to register your team for the tournament (one form per team)! Due to venue limitations, we may have to cap the number of teams in the tournament on a first-come first-serve basis.

Team nominations close on 23rd May 2026, and team lists can be edited before the tournament. If you are unsure of your full team list when signing up please put TBC in the player box.

Regular pool game slot time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Bronze games slot time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Gold games slot times: 2 hours

Pool games, semi finals and bronze matches are best of three sets.
Gold matches are best of five sets.

CVA aims to provide all teams with 3 matches on Saturday with 4 hours and 30 minutes of total game time. This will depend on the final draw.
Saturday: Captains briefing at 7:30am with games beginning at 8am until 5pm
Sunday: Games beginning no earlier than 8:30am

    2026 Cairns Volleyball Schools Cup
    1. Housekeeping - Cairns SHS Bouwa Sports Complex:
    a) Thank you for helping us in keeping the complex clean and tidy by using the bins provided.
    b) No food or eskies in court area thank you, only water bottles allowed.
    c) Teams failing to follow expectations around the no food and drink in the court policy will have points deducted.
    d) Teams are expected to be reminding any of their spectators of this as their failure to follow this expectation will have the same consequences.
    e) Food and drinks are allowed outside the hall. Please use the bins provided.
    f) In the event of an emergency evacuation, please exit your closest door and assemble on Grafton Street.
    g) Results will be displayed throughout the day at a place designated on the day.

    2. Eligibility of players and gameplay:
    a) Players can only register in one team, with a maximum of 12 players per team.
    b) Minimum 6 players on the court from the team list. If teams do not have 6 signed in players from their team list by the start of the first serve, they will forfeit the first set. If a 6th team list player arrives during the first set, they must wait until the second set to begin play. If the team that the 6th team list player has joined wins the second set, then a third set is played to 15 points with a win by 2 as per usual rules.
    c) For a player to be eligible for any finals, team players must have played in at least two regular pool matches (Saturday games).
    d) Two no show forfeits in a row will result in a removal from the competition.
    e) Teams require a consistent uniform with a number at least on the back. The Libero must be contrasting in colour.

    3. Game Play:
    i. Win = 3 tournament points
    ii. Loss = 1 tournament point
    iii. Forfeit = 0 tournament points
    a) 1 hour and 30 minute game slot with a warmup as below.
    b) Warm up begins immediately at the start of game slot time.
    c) No hitting or serving until warmup time begins.
    d) General warmup ‘pepper’ is allowed if the court is free due to an early finish.

    Warm up procedure:
    I. At 60 minutes = general warmup (3 minutes) e.g. 10:00am
    II. At 57 minutes = Hitting through position 4 (left side hitting) (2 minutes) e.g. 10:03am
    III. At 54 minutes = Hitting through position 2 (right side hitting) (1 minute) e.g. 10:06am
    IV. At 53 minutes = Serving (1 minute) e.g. 10:07am
    V. At 52 minutes = Break for rotations (1 minute) e.g. 10:08am
    VI. At 50 minutes = First serve e.g. 10:10am

    e) All games are played to best of 3 sets (25, 25, 15). Third set not being compulsory, EXCEPT the gold medal matches which will be played as best of 5 sets (25, 25, 25, 25, 15).
    f) Teams must win 2 sets for a best-of-3 game or 3 sets in a best-of-5 game to be recorded as a win.
    g) In timed games, if the timer runs out before the end of a set, a winning team must be above 8 points AND be leading by 2 points for the set to be counted.
    h) If at the end of game time a team is not at 8 points a game winner will be determined based on points count back for the entire game. The final set point will be given to the team with the higher total game point total.
    i) No time out is allowed in the last 5 minutes of a set.
    a. Team rankings will be determined in the following order:
    1. Tournament points
    2. Number of matches won
    3. Number of sets won
    4. Points difference
    j) Teams must present at least 6 players for the start of each match, but if their number is reduced to 5 players during the match due to injury only, the team will be permitted to continue play without penalty. Teams playing with 5 players must play with a ‘space’ in the empty position, maintaining other rotational positions. If a team is reduced to less than 5 players, the remainder of the match will be forfeited but any points gained during the unfinished match will be retained for the purpose of calculating positions.

    5. Captain Duties:
    a) Team lists must be filled out by captains/coaches before the end of warmup time. Players who are not on the scoresheet team list are NOT eligible to take the court during that game.
    b) Captains from both teams are to read and sign the scoresheet after the end of each game.

    6. Duty:
    a) Teams are required to do duty as per the draw and require:
    I. First referee
    II. Second referee
    III. Scorer
    IV. At least two lines people standing on opposite sides of the court.
    b) Duty team duty does not end until the winning team captain has read and signed the scoresheet and it has been handed to the kiosk.
    c) If a duty team is late and cannot fill the above positions by the first serve, it will result in a 2 point per minute late penalty on the next game they play.

    7. Other:
    a) Competition Co-ordinator decisions are final.
    b) Late season team entries may be accepted at the sole discretion of the CVA committee.
    c) Written communication between teams and CVA is via coaches/captains and play@cairnsvolleyball.com.au only.
    d) Cairns Volleyball Association expects all players and officials to be treated with respect. Sanctions will apply to individuals and teams for poor behaviour.
    e) All players will play at their own risk and Cairns Volleyball Association and the host venue will not be held responsible for any injuries or medical and associated costs incurred.
