Terms and conditions

  • CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON BY-LAWS (Will also be emailed to Captains before the first game)

    1. Team Registration:
    a. Teams need to register via the CVA Majesti website only.
    b. $75 team nomination deposit is required to be paid when registering your team via the CVA Majesti website. If a refund is requested, it will only be refunded to the captain’s/manager’s account at the end of the season at the sole discretion of the CVA committee. $75 deposit is used in the final week unless teams have outstanding fees from a prior week.
    c. All players need current 2025 CVA ($20) and VQ (Recreational $35) memberships (exp 31/3/26).

    2. Eligibility of Players and Team:
    a. $75 per game fee prior to playing needs to be paid. This is paid in person at the hall kiosk electronically on the night prior to the game.
    b. Players can only register in one team, with a maximum of 10 players per team.
    c. Every player must sign themselves in on the team list sheet at the kiosk prior to each game. This is prior to the first serve. Team list sign in sheets are kept at the kiosk. Penalties will apply to teams with players repeatedly failing to do this.
    d. Minimum 5 players on the court from the team list. If teams do not have 5 signed in players from their team list by the start of the first serve, they will forfeit the first set with 25-0 recorded on the scoresheet. If a 5th team list player arrives during the first set, they must sign in and wait until the second set to begin play. If the team that the 5th team list player has joined wins the second set, then a third set is played to 15 points with a win by 2. A team must be above 8 points and be leading by 2 points otherwise the game is recorded as a draw.
    e. For a player to be eligible for any finals, team players must have played in at least three regular round matches that season. Regular pool rounds do not include the crossover round or the Grand Final round.
    f. Team non-payment/attendance will result in in a forfeit noted, and no score being accounted for the match.
    g. Two no show forfeits in a row will result in a removal from the competition.
    h. All teams that forfeit will still pay match fees. Any outstanding fees must be paid in full before the team will be permitted to play any further games in subsequent weeks.
    i. CVA committee can be provided notice via email at play@cairnsvolleyball.com.au with reasonable notice of any extreme circumstances relating to a team forfeit.
    j. Teams must wear a consistent uniform with a number at least on the back for all games. A Libero player’s uniform should be contrasting in colour. Leniency can be provided for uniform consistency in the first week however players cannot take the court without a number.

    3. Game Play:
    a. 1 hour game slot with a warm up as below:
    i. H:15pm: Warm up begins. Previous teams vacate the court and the next teams enter.
ii. Team Captains are to fill out team lists by the end of warmup time.
iii. H:15pm: Captains paper scissors rock/coin toss.
    iv. H:18pm: Left-side hitting.
    v. H:20pm: Right-side hitting.
    vi. H:22pm: Serving.
vii. H:23pm: By now team Captains have presented to the scorer/second referee their set 1 rotation slip. Players put balls in the basket.
viii. H:24pm: Break for the second referee to complete rotation check with players in positions.
    ix. H:25pm: First serve.
    b. Team captains are to ensure rotation slips are presented before the commencement of each set.
    c. Last serve at H:14pm to end the game.
    d. Captains of both teams are to ensure the scoresheet is signed after the end of each game.
    e. Teams must win 2 sets for the game to be recorded as a win (otherwise it will be counted as a draw).
    f. Sets must be won by 2 points.
    g. All games are played to the best of 3 sets (25, 25, 15) except the gold medal matches in the final week of the season which will be played with the first team to win 3 sets declared winner. This means gold medal matches may require the best of 5 sets (25, 25, 25, 25, 15).
    h. If the timer runs out before the end of the second or third set, a winning team must be above 8 points and be leading by 2 points otherwise the game is recorded as a draw.
    i. During a 15-point set teams switch sides when a team obtains 8 points.
    j. During the gold medal matches a set can be played past time only to avoid a draw and award a gold medal winner.
    k. 12 sub rule applies. Libero may be changed each set.
    l. 2025 FIVB rules apply: https://www.fivb.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/FIVB-Volleyball_Rules2025_2028-EN.pdf

ii. At least two lines people standing on opposite sides of the court.
    b. Duty team duty does not end until both captains have read and signed the scoresheet and it has been handed to the kiosk.
